Once Mani, always Mani
On December 21, 2017, Elias and I left Gothenburg and on December 24, 2017 we arrived at the port of Patras. From here we went o to Koroni, where we rented a house for the first 3 months in our new country. Although at this very moment we were homeless, since the end of 2015 we were the happy owners of a plot of land in Mani, in the village of Nomitsi where our house was to be built.
Both Elias and I brought assignments from Sweden, Elias on 100% and I on 30% because my task was to build a business concept around the sale and rental of properties in Messinia. We started with Husigrekland.se, then expanded with Domwgrecji.pl and Houseinpeloponnese.com which eventually became HousefindersPeloponnese.com.
“Hestia” house in Nomitsi
From September 2020 we moved into our own house in Nomitsi. Our friends help us “understand” the garden, as both Elias and I are not people with “green fingers”. Tomato growing, olive picking, is this a salad or a cabbage growing over there and similar everyday problems.
“Coming home” feeling grew and strengthened, even if the wonderful free view had to be limited by a fence and wall. Not because we were afraid of thieves but because the animals ate everything we grew! Well, yes, we live in a “wild Mani” after all, haha.
There were more of us in the household, Estia moved in, there were fewer beach visits because the pool beckoned with cooling swims and our own olive grove with nice shade and silence. Even though I had to work longer and longer in the evenings, it was a luxury to sit on the balcony and gaze at the magnificent sunsets.
Next station: “Epsilon” house in Kotroni
There are sometimes things that we cannot predict and that change what we have in mind. In January 2024, we knew that I could never drive a car again because of my vision problem. And living in our paradise in Nomitsi with only one driver is a difficult task. So, yes, we thought about it but didn’t want to give up and move back to Sweden. We decided to sell the “Hestia” property, buy a plot closer to the community and build a new house. Just 600 meters from the sea!
I think the name “Epsilon” should match the new project, haha. Epsilon is both a letter of the Greek alphabet (we are three E) and a symbol with a specific use in mathematics, especially to represent a small, arbitrary positive quantity. Epsilon is also used in Microeconomics as a designation for price elasticity, haha.
We bought a difficult plot (our budget had to be decided and we can see the sea from the roof terrace) but we had help from many friends to draw and design what we want and we think we will succeed this time too! At the time of writing, our citrus trees are growing in pots in our friends’ garden. We are renting a small house and waiting to move into our new house. Once Mani, always Mani! Follow up follows….
